Why I Advocate for 988
In my latest blog post, I share my personal journey from surviving three suicide attempts to becoming an advocate for the 988 hotline. Attending the Florida Mental Health Advocacy Coalition’s event, I highlighted the crucial need for recurring funding for 988 to ensure continuous access to mental health support. Discover why 988 is vital for early intervention and how it can transform lives, including my own, by providing timely resources and support.
I was hospitalized in a psych ward.
On March 24, 2019, I found myself in a psych ward after a desperate attempt to end my life. The experience was a mix of distress and unexpected moments of connection; it was a place that, while cold and isolating, also introduced me to a community of people struggling with similar battles. This journey revealed to me the need for a more compassionate approach to mental health crisis intervention, inspiring my mission to advocate for better support systems and to share my story to help others feel less alone.
Is It True? How Could You?
In my latest blog post, I delve into the painful reality of living with suicidal ideation and the often misguided reactions it provokes. I share how questions like “How could you?” or “Why would you want to hurt yourself?” can intensify feelings of isolation and shame. By revealing my personal experiences and the harsh realities behind the statistics, I hope to foster a more compassionate dialogue and encourage others to approach these conversations with empathy and understanding.
